It is essential that students are provided with high quality literature to read every day. Students need to expand their vocabularies and practice reading engaging texts at their instructional level on a daily basis! I work with upper elementary students who are decoding just below grade level, but have limited vocabularies and need comprehension strategies. These books will engage my students and serve as the texts for many lessons. An author study of Chris Van Allsburg's books will provide my upper-elementary students with some of the texts they need in order to build vocabulary, comprehension and reading fluency.
