The #1 comment I hear from adults is that they completely forgot all of their Spanish from middle and high school. As theories of language-learning change, today's foreign language students need access to high-quality comprehensible stories and videos, language based on real-life communication, and task-based learning to create meaning instead of outdated textbooks. During COVID-19, textbooks have become difficult to make available online, take home, and share with all of my 151 students on top of the challenge of making them relatable and current. With the Somos 1 FLEX: Digital/Hybrid curriculum, students learning from both in-person and virtual modalities can receive equal access to engaging Spanish resources that emphasize culture and communication. Students who are experiencing COVID-19 will be able to follow along seamlessly with instruction thanks to the full digital access to the curriculum that SOMOS 1 Flex offers. In-person students will simultaneously benefit from the ease of personalized hybrid learning that does not rely on shared textbooks. Somos 1 FLEX will ensure that an excellent quality of instruction is maintained for all students no matter their learning modality during the pandemic.
