7th-grade teachers have started having a quarterly book project where all students read the same novel at home. Students will be assigned certain chapters to read at home and come prepared to class ready to discuss themes, plot, characterization, etc. Discussing literature is such an important part of all ELA classes, and teaching 7th graders to be accountable for their homework is important. There will also be a fun and engaging culminating project that explores themes and characterization. We have not had enough books for all students to read at the same time; this will help solve that problem. These novels will be used by 300+ students every year! If these novels come in time, we will be able to use them for quarter 4.
