In order to make up some of the learning gaps created by COVID-19, my goal is to foster more visual and kinesthetic learning experiences for students. This will help them both academically and with social-emotional wellness. Academically, having a different learning method will help them to solidify the concepts they have learned in class. Emotionally, it will be a good opportunity for them to take a break from technology and get some social interaction in groups while discussing topics and creating things with that knowledge. In my experience, history is best learned through storytelling and relevance. If students are engaged and feel like what they are learning is more relevant and personal, they tend to latch on to the information more. Diverting away from the traditional lecture and note style of schooling will help my students accomplish this, especially as they are given opportunities to create artwork and Lego creations about the content.
