Book clubs held in my classroom help enhance the students ability to read and enjoyment of reading. The students get to select a book from a variety of titles, so they can choose a book that appeals to them. Each book is unique allowing students to identify with the characters or content. When the students can connect to the book, they are more engaged in the reading and better to apply the lessons to their own lives. I have watched my students choose books for their book projects, and they are interested in books just like these. The books are about bullying, low-income families, drought, and survival. Each student can find a way to connect to these books and better change their sphere of influence. By having books the students can connect with, they will be more interested and engaged in their reading.
