My students read part of Romeo and Juliet in the original Shakespearean English. It is hard to understand as we just don't speak that anymore. The play is also meant to be experienced rather than read. The modern English coupled with the images in the graphic novel version, will really help students understand the story. Since it takes place a long time ago, students have trouble imagining what the characters and setting looked like, but the images in the graphic novel will help bring that to life for them. Ever since COVID-19, students find it even harder to engage. They have lower stamina. The graphic novel will help them.
