The items requested will help us nurture the beginning stages of a chick's life cycle. From the time they are an egg, we keep them safe in an automatic incubator that gives them warmth and turns them at specific times each day. This incubator will also keep track of the amount of days left in the incubator so we know when to switch them to our brooder. After 21 days of incubation, the chick’s are ready to hatch and students can watch as these new friends hatch out of their eggs and wait to be switched over to our brooder cage. In this cage the humidity and warmth are controlled so the chick’s can stay healthy and warm. We have included pine bedding so their legs can develop properly! Another important aspect of this wish list is the chick feed that helps them stay healthy and strong. It helps them develop properly. We even have shallow water and food dishes included so the chick’s can stay safe as they get their proper nutrients. This brooder cage also allows the students to easily clean, hold and watch the chick’s! With these chickens, we will learn about their life cycle, use addition and subtraction to figure out how many more days until they hatch, we will encourage them to write and draw observations, and even read stories about how to properly care for living things which aligns with our practical life units and the core units of math, language arts, and science.
