Students will design and engineer sumo wrestling robots. These robots have one goal - to push the other robot out of the ring. In order to optimize their robots, students will have to develop a deep understanding of the physics that make them work. I strive to make science as hands-on as possible. The most memorable moments in my education were those where I discovered something on my own. I aim to create as many of those moments for my students as I can. The supplies for this project will allow each student group to design and build their own sumo robot. Students will build an initial sumo robot at the beginning of the project, perform experiments to learn about the underlying physics that allow sumo robots to succeed, and then finally apply what they have learned to build a final sumo robot at the end of the project.
