Our 8th grade students will soon be learning about the different types of intelligences and the brain. They will learn about the typical brain, but they'll also explicitly learn about what makes their brains different from the typical brain. This research unit will be cooperative and multi-sensory. Students will write a comparative research paper on two types of intelligences and use the brain models to help visualize the parts of the brain. This will aid them in creating descriptive works. A teacher's job is not to just teach fractions or poetry, but to teach the whole student, which includes character building. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens will be our class book club book. This will begin a deep discussion about character, innovation, growth mindset, and planning ahead. This will also be listed as the mandatory text for our 8th grade K.E.Y (Knowledge Empowers You) Program. This is a year-long high school to career readiness program.
