The materials I have chosen are specific to many of my student's goals, whether it be learning new vocabulary, using sign language to request more of an item, or using augmentative and alternative communication to ask for help with using a new toy. The tools used with young children during speech and language therapy sessions should be geared towards the child's interests. Using toys and activities that are motivating allows for a variety of ways the child can use language and have opportunities to build their language in the most natural way. For example, the ball stacking ramp seems like such an exciting toy for a 3-year-old, but for a speech therapist, the language opportunities are endless. The ball ramp sparks interest in the child and presents a space for the child to request more of the ball rolling, using verbs like "roll", "stop", "go" and so much more! Each toy I have chosen can be used to target a number of goals in a fun and exciting way for my students! Speech therapy should be fun, motivating, and exciting which is exactly the environment I wish to create with my resources.
