This will give my students choice in which novel they read and study. The books are nonfiction and about overcoming obstacles. They each present a unique perspective and cultural context for the students to explore and share with their classmates. Selecting the true stories that most interest them will make them more likely to read the entire novel and enjoy it. Not only will this help them learn the reading, analyzing, and discussing skills that we will be focusing on, but hopefully, it will also ignite their love for reading.
