As a Behavior Intervention Specialist I get to work with students in all grade levels that struggle with behavior and social settings. I work to provide a space that is safe and welcoming to teach them strategies and skills that will help them in their classrooms. I plan to use books as mentor texts to help teach feelings and emotions during my social group interventions. Also, The students benefit from specialized seating to meet their behavioral and sensory needs. For example, seating that allows them to bounce or move helps many students to fidget and get out extra energy while focusing and engaging in learning. I plan on using these seating options in my Behavior room as well as checking them out to classroom teachers to help in their rooms. Another trigger for many of my students is sensory needs and over stimulation in the classroom. As such, I would like to have sensory toys and games in my room as part of a "Calm Corner". That is an area dedicated to meeting my students sensory needs. This is important because it helps to calm and reset students so they can return to their learning.
