On our campus 99% of our student body identifies as BIPOC and 87% qualify for free or reduced lunch. As such, our students seek to graduate and pursue a career that provides improved financial wellness for themselves and their families. By providing our students with exposure to a wide variety of professions, we strive to help our students develop the skills and confidence they need to excel in their chosen career. It is vital that our students learn what careers are available to them so they can make informed life choices. I am seeking the use of modern technology via Virtual Reality Oculus goggles to show them what is possible. There is a specific app called VR Career Experience available on the Oculus platform where users can explore over 20 different career options within the trades using hands on VR simulation. I plan to use career interest surveys and VR technology to help my students narrow down their career interests confidently.
