Our school library has a wealth of young adult literature. The majority of these books target female readers. Whenever I assign my students to choose a book from the library, many male students wander reluctantly, doubting they will be able to find anything of real interest. This collection of books represents high interest materials that match my students' interests. I can use these books to hook many students into reading about their role models and in turn writing about them as well. Students are more successful when required to read and write about subjects that interest them before moving on to more complex subject matter.
