Students in my art classes come from a wide variety of backgrounds; however, most of them have had no experience with art prior to stepping into my classroom. It is a part of my pedagogy to teach them about all the ways art is applicable and valuable to them, and so I decided to start a student-run, semi-annual art show in my school. In preparation for the event, students learned about how museums and galleries are run. Then, they organized the gym to accommodate for the event, designed invitations, posters, and activities for visitors, and curated their own work for display. Our first show went extremely well - it brought together the community, provided an opportunity for parents to see what we were doing in the classroom, and made students proud of all their hard work. However, this experience brought to light the unfortunate fact that we do not have the necessary furniture to host an art show! Our school has never hosted any art shows in the past and has very limited spaces for displaying artwork, even in the art classroom. These panels are the perfect material to post artwork on and are flexible enough to fit anywhere (including outside, for COVID-safe gatherings!).
