Our school has a few Apple iMac computers that have been loaded with the GarageBand music software. While we are grateful for them, the accompanying typing keyboard is difficult to manage for musical purposes, especially when building a beat, or playing a keyboard instrument. Access to midi keyboard controllers will give my 4th graders a whole new perspective to GarageBand and beat making. It will empower them to begin creating the music that they know and love. With this new digital music program, we hope to help students transfer skills from one domain to the other. One skill that is transferable from math to music is fractions. This program will help students understand that time signatures in beat making have similar divisions as presented in the grid of the piano roll of any Digital Audio Workstation! Beyond the nitty-gritty of music production, the goal is for my students to have fun while exploring the depths of their creative prowess!
