Just the thought of math can bring on a lot of stress to students who struggle with numbers. Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning disabilities make it difficult to relax and be comfortable learning and actively doing mathematics. By implementing flexible and comfortable seating, not only will my students have some independence in how they learn, but it also takes off some of the stress that naturally comes with a math class. Students spend majority of their school day in a desk, so it can be difficult to sit still, especially at the end of the day. When students are fidgety and anxious to get up and move around, it's difficult to maintain their attention for longer than a few minutes. Non-traditional classroom seating, such as bean bags and floor chairs, brings comfort to an otherwise high-stress environment and sets students up for success by removing unnecessary discomfort.
