My students live in a low income area, and encounter a lot of negative visual stimuli in their community. They have very little appreciation for the impact that mathematics can have on their lives. Nevertheless, my students are very curious,intelligent, and react very well to rich visual stimulation. On certain occasions their eyes might drift to the walls, but I currently cannot capitalize on this because my walls are bare.
