Molecular geometry is a very abstract concept that many students struggle with yet it is a key aspect of all of chemistry. Understanding the shape and structure of the molecules we study is a foundation for nearly all other concepts. I continually strive to motivate and excite my students about the world of chemistry and the chemistry of everyday life. For these students to be able to look and touch the molecules they study is a game-changer. The models will also serve as a motivation to keep their interest. By using these models they will gain a whole new perspective. These models will be used with all of my students over two separate years of chemistry. They will allow them the initially work together to see how molecules are arranged. As a follow-up, the molecules will give the students a clearer vision of the shape and function of these compounds. This will lead to predicting physical and chemical properties.
