This project will help cover the cost of the Breathe For Change comprehensive training program. It is designed for educators to build skills used to facilitate wellness and social-emotional learning in the classroom, as well as teach inclusive and trauma-informed yoga classes to young people. I have my undergraduate degree in General Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Art Education. Despite my professional experiences and masters degree, I have never received any formal training in Social Emotional Learning and I am seeking to fill this hole in my professional development to better serve my diverse students. As the Visual Arts Teacher and Restorative Practice Lead at my school, this training will help me build on our school's existing programs and integrate principals and practices that are proactive and build healthy classroom communities and learning environments. This professional development will feed my passion and empower me to be present with my students and strategically design a safe, healthy, and inclusive space where young artists can be their whole selves and discover how to use artistic expression, yoga, and mindfulness as a vehicle for healing and learning. Upon completing the Breathe for Change course, I will become certified as a Social-Emotional Learning Facilitator (SEL*F) and earn a nationally recognized RYT-200 yoga teacher certification. Because I teach all the students at my school, Kindergarten through 5th Grade, I will have the unique opportunity to share my new skills with the entire student body, incorporate social-emotional and wellness supports in my daily art class routines and classroom culture, and facilitate workshops to share resources with other educators.
