I would like to build a safe calming space for students to go to when the stressors of the day just get to be too much for them and they need a place to take a break and practice the valuable coping skills they are learning. Many of our students are learning skills that will help them to not only learn and more effectively participate in their school environment but also help them to develop social and self-coping skills that are so important to their overall well-being. This sensory space would be a game-changer for our students that just need a place where they can have the space to process their feelings and emotions. Having tools such as an exercise mat, diffuser, bean bags, etc. to support sensory processing and calming strategies will help to also encourage positive behaviors in the classroom and encourage overall increased student success for our special education students.
