My 8th graders will be going off to high school at the end of this year. Many of them have not been in school in a year and a half, but they have also not had the chance to hold an actually book. Doing a novel study will not only prepare them for high school, but will allow them to develop the skills for novel studies in college. I want to assure that my students are given a fighting chance, at this time, most have only used a text book with short stories. Our first unit will be on cultural milestones. Not only will this book be a real book in their hands, but it will also teach some of them about a different culture. It will be used for many writing prompts and discussions. I hope to provide a glimpse into a new world for my students.
