Authentic Spanish literature often frustrates students, which causes them to give up. Using books written specifically for language learners is the best way to get students to continue to grow and learn until they are ready to engage with authentic materials. Having a DIVERSE Spanish classroom library will allow for individual language acquisition, increased student motivation, and make the development of reading comprehension more enjoyable! Research shows that reading in the target language results in improvements in vocabulary acquisition, grammatical development, and overall profieciency in the target language. My goal for this project is to increase Spanish proficiency and encourage lifelong reading. My Spanish classroom is an authentic space that opens up my students' world and allows them to access people and places that they never could before. This library will allow my students to always find something that they WANT to read and CAN comprehend! Reading helps students acquire the language in a more natural way, and will also help them become stronger readers of English language. Reading is a powerful tool!
