Students at our school begin their photography education with mobile photography skills, specifially composition, personal style and an introduction to genres. Although mobile photography has its place, there are simply some components of the art form that cannot be taught on a cell phone. In order for students to fully understand how a cameras works as well as build an appreciation for the art form, they need to experience a camera with manual options. DSLR cameras give students opportunities to expand on their creative expression, skills and workforce readiness. Additionally, students already spend an excessive amount on time on screens and need a way to creatively express themselves through these challenging times. DSLR cameras allow them to do so off thier phones while still remaining relevant.
