In a class where all students have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), having the ability to take breaks earned from completing work allows students to refocus and take a break from academics for a short amount of time, and then get right back into their work. Based on students current preference assessments, these items are preferred allowing students to remain calm, self regulate, and interact with their peers further developing their social skills. The items such as slime, putty, and fidgets allow the students in my classroom to have their sensory needs met through their tools and systems put in place to be used as means of reinforcement and calm students.
