Reading is a crucial part of our day to day in school. We read many different books that teach many different things. Students use these books to learn themes, characters, different perspectives, facts about the world, and so much more. Modeling these read alouds is a wonderful way for these students to begin to learn to use these strategies. Multicultural books make these read alouds so much more powerful for diverse learners. When students see themselves in what they are reading and can relate to how the character looks and what their home life is like, they can create stronger connections to the books. This creates a much more meaningful experience for students.
