The students in my Music Classes are hungry for activities that are interactive and hands-on. Traditionally, music classes teach music history, composing, rhythm, and music notation as lectures with worksheets. This kind of learning tends to be boring and not very engaging for students (and adults!). Music students thrive when they are taught rhythm and notation in a hands-on engaging manner that adds real world applications where they can see (and hear) the results of their learning (and why they are doing it). With this project, my students will be able to use high-quality drums to learn rhythm patterns that will help them in learning music notation and composing their own music. Furthermore, since my students come from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, it will allow for many teachable moments where they can show others (musically), examples from the many different cultures they represent, which helps to build individual pride and self-esteem.
