Photography and art classes allow students of all backgrounds the exposure to new ideas and worlds. Hands on experience behind the camera gives students a voice in a unique medium- that is different than most academic classes. Most students are required to purchase a camera to participate in the class, though for many families this is still great financial hardship. Too often the "school" cameras are the old beat up equipment, which can discourage students and even produce lower quality photos. New cameras will provide an opportunity keep our class moving with the rapid pace of technology and allow students to have access to the resources needed to feel confident in their projects. Our class has also been challenged with the project of creating a promo video for our school. GoPros are an easy video camera to use that the students are often familiar. We hope to challenge our students to find creative ways to share their school spirit with the community through their photography and videos.
