During independent reading time, some students choose to silent read while others choose to listen to an audiobook. These adjustable, noise-cancelling headphones will help my students listen without being distracted by other activities going on in the classroom. Modeled reading is an essential part of laying the foundation for a lifelong love of literature. Listening to a seasoned reader's pacing and expression keeps students engaged and better equipped to comprehend, retell and reflect on the text. This is what makes our audiobook library so valuable! However, our older headphones make crackling sounds that impact the quality of a student's listening experience. Another way our headphones will be used is for daily digital phonics practice. Students will use headphones to hear a word or phrase read aloud, then repeat it into the microphone. Next, students are able to play back their recording to compare their pronunciation with that of the model reader. Having a new set of reliable headphones that are compatible with our various listening devices is going to make our intervention time flow more efficiently and help my developing readers continue to blossom.
