Reading is a daily practice in the 6th grade and students can struggle to find books that they can read independently, enjoy, and will remember once they've finished reading. My library is a bit outdated, and I know that new books would help reignite their passion for reading. My students have already shown that reading is much easier and more fun when they see themselves, or their peers, in the story. My hope is that we will be able to use these books to connect to students and help students connect to each other through similar interests. I can't wait to see what my students accomplish with new books to propel them forward in their education! Learning to read can, and should, be a fun part of my students' days. It is through the graphic novels, various topics, and popular books that my students will be able to see the joy of reading. It is also important to have culturally diverse and accessible books for students with different needs. Let's make reading relevant for these 6th graders and the future ones!
