For years I have been copying chapters from books because I can’t afford class sets of novels for my students. I want young adults to experience the magic of actual books. I want them to love reading and writing. Good books about relevant topics, help young adults feel seen. They also help them experience real life problems in the safety of a fictional world. Young adults deserve the shared experience of reading in the classroom where they can discuss and write about what they’ve read with their peers. There is no other experience that compares to that of finding a book you love for the first time.

About my class
