I have worked in an elementary school for the past five years, and I have recently made the transition to a high school classroom. This transition is not to any high school, the high school where I will be teaching is an alternative high school. The mission of this school is to provide alternative and credit recovery programs to "at risk" students, students who have a history of behavioral, social, and/or academic issues that are interfering with their education, so they can earn a high school diploma. All of these students have the potential to be successful. They have come from hard lives and have struggled in the regular classroom setting. My goal is to provide them with a rigorous and exciting education under the new Arizona Common Core College and Career Readiness Standards. I want to ensure that these students are prepared for state testing and to be life long learners.
