What we don’t know about American history hurts us all. Talking with students about slavery can be emotional and complex. These books are tools that will help me to teach the past in an engaging age appropriate way. These books will help students develop a deeper understanding of history. Once we understand the past, we can better understand the present. Students will be able to critically evaluate and analyze ways in which they can become active participants in a diverse democracy. We will read and discuss these books because they matter.
