Flexible seating is an important addition to any modern classroom. My students are currently lacking options of seating choices in my classroom. Students feel more empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment therefore several alternative seating options will be a major factor in this feeling of empowerment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Children need to move and should not be made to sit in a traditional desk for an hour long class period. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean, or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.
