The materials needed for this project will make a tremendous impact on my students' learning. Hands-on projects such as this one, helps students to better understand the topic and gain life long skills. The materials that I am requesting will help students to create their own quilts after learning about the significance of quilts during the Underground Railroad. Students will learn more about how the Underground Railroad was operated and organized. This will help students to better understand the resilience and determination of slaves fighting to obtain their freedom. Slaves often times could not read or write, so they were able to create quilts to send secret messages to each other, my students will be able to create their own hidden messages inside of their quilts, while also learning how to sew and create quilts. Students will also donate these hand made quilts to local community organizations.
