I want my students to learn about the amazing options that they have to pursue their educational aspirations. We are in the process of kicking off our Black Student Union and I want to make sure we create a space where all student feel welcome. During our BSU meetings I'd want to educate students on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, not just the usual CC, CSU, and UC options. HBCU's should be equally represented on any school campus.My hope is that I can bring awareness to these amazing and prestigious institutions. Looking at the research of these schools, HBCU's consistently outperform non-HBCUs in student experience, affordability, and after college preparedness for Black students. As we begin to create out classroom where our BSU will meet I will see what it is that we need to create a safe space for us to share ideas. For now these pennants will be a great addition to bring that representation.
