As a school counselor I would love to house a coping skills box in each classroom at my elementary school. Each box will have hand picked items by me that will help students to use coping skills to self-soothe in times of hightened anixiety. Just one example of items I will place in this box, is a pinwheel which will be used i for specific calming breathing exercises. Once the boxes are assembled I will explaine each one of these hand picked items to the teacher and students. I have noticed that it is so important that the students in my school to have a safe designated space within their classroom to go to if you are feeling anxious or even if they just need a quick brain break. Having this outlet for students in each classroom would help with social emotional issues tremendously. This project is a large undertaking but it will a great asset for my school.
