Game On!
My students are always looking for time to be just kids! Even with these rigorous lessons happening, we all need a break from time to time. My students need a variety of board games to be engaged in fun ways of working together.
After the pandemic, it is crucial that students are taught social skills again and again in order to interact with each other and help them improve their relationships with their peers. Board games and card games have always been fun, engaging, and social time for people. Everyone can remember that one time they were playing a game.
Having a variety of games in the classroom from just playtime to time is giving all students the opportunity to interact with their peers and practice the components of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Teaching students life skills also go hand in hand with our school mission: Students achieve the success that lasts a lifetime. This doesn't just mean academically, but also socially and emotionally. Students need practice in interacting with others in the appropriate way.
These games will provide my students with a sense of love and belonging. We know that in order for a child to learn, they must have the lower tiers of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs met. Love and belonging are one of those tiers. So, will you help me make my students feel love and belonging in our classroom?
