At our school, students are engaged in learning about their brains and how being well regulated can help them achieve academically. A Brain Lab will provide students with a space where they can identify how they are feeling and better understand how this impacts brain functioning. They can choose related activities that help them become regulated, and in a better place to learn. Depending on the students' needs, they may regulate through calming activities like breathing, rhythmic activities, or more focused attention activities including art and journaling. The world would be a different place if we all had a quiet space we could go to, close the door, and lovingly attend to our self.
