Each morning, all of the students at BMS read silently in the gym. Recently I have noticed that many of my multilingual students are disengaged or disinterested in their books. Because my students are learning English, they often struggle to find books at their reading level that are engaging and exciting. In addition, many books currently available to my students are unrelatable, and the students struggle to connect with the characters. Funding this project will ensure that students receive high-interest books that will help them better understand themselves and the world around them. My students will see themselves in the stories of other strong, creative, and intelligent refugees, immigrants, and multilingual young adults. In addition, graphic novels bring each story to life and add visual support to assist lower readers and help develop vocabulary. Please consider helping my students foster an interest in reading and a love for literature!
