Chess expands the mind and teaches children to think critically. Critical thinking is lacking from many generations and I believe this can help. The students here also do not have any clubs and a club is needed to build a sense of community and belonging. Some of my special needs students are joining and being apart of a group is very important to learning social ques and building life skills. Students will learn to win or lose gracefully. With very little support at home for many students this will be a place to feel welcomed and belong.
