Students at the Therapeutic Education Program are in need of art materials for their art classes. Students at TEP are all SPED and are at varying levels socially and emotionally. Through artmaking, we are learning skills, building confidence, expressing and working through emotions. Art class at TEP is therapeutic in its approach. Having paints and clay will mean more engaging projects to excite students about learning. Working through their mental triggers is so important for their coping abilities. Art making is meditative and comforting. It also helps them with motor coordination, building patience with practice, and problem solving. This school is a last step for many students who are not able to function at regular public schools. Our students are learning to cope with many hurdles including mental illness, learning disabilities, and neurological issues. More than half of our population is in foster care or otherwise homeless. There are not many other places between our school and the "real world" of adult life. They are in need of an education, but also our love and support.
