Due to the pandemic, my students were out of in-person learning for 18 months. This means my 4th graders have not had a full year of school since 1st grade. The 5th graders I instruct during After School has not had a full year since 2nd grade. Upon their return, many of the 4th graders demonstrated being on a Kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd-grade math level. Now that we've been in person for 2 months, their ability to compute is coming back but they need more practice than that of the textbook and photocopies available.
I'd like to make the learning component of daily small-group rotations more exciting while also providing greater opportunities for the students to interact with their peers. Flex-Space Student Lap Desks will enable my students to be socially distanced while not mandating they stay in their seats and desk for the entire elementary school day. Classroom Floor Puzzles and Grab Match Leveled Math Quickies, will enable the kids to practice their skills away from worksheets and the blue light of the computer screen. The variety of skill levels will reach almost all of the levels I teach (grades 2-5). This interpersonal relationship skill set needs further development and math small-group time is a great place for that growth to occur. Additionally, students can take home select cards from various domains of the requested sets to help break up the monotony of homework worksheets and dittos.
