Learning and comfort for my Kindergarten - Fifth grade students will be enhanced with the addition of a classroom rug in the music room! Organization, less noise, comfort, and a sense of community are all benefits of a large community rug. When students enter the classroom, they will be greeted with the bright music symbols! They will be reviewing music terms and symbols from the minute they walk in the room. The rug allows for warmth, both from the cold floor, and the feeling that they are connected to their classmates. It is pleasing both visually and kinesthetically. Classroom management is enhanced as they move directly to their assigned square. The rug helps with noise reduction (dropped items, percussion instrument sounds, etc.) for those with specific sensory needs. The rug also allows for space for movement activities without the danger of moving furniture around. I believe that when my students are comfortable, know exactly where they are assigned to sit, and have noise reduced, they will be able to focus on the lesson and their learning will be enhanced. A music rug is another tool in building knowledge and a sense of community.
