Teaching my first graders about STEAM is very important because it helps teachers incorporate multiple disciplines at the same into lessons. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. At such a young age, students who have access to STEAM lessons encourages them to ask questions to spark discussions as well as problem solve. Letting students be creative with hands-on lessons gives students an opportunity to explore, play, and try new things. The earlier students are exposed to STEAM, the more confident they will feel in pursuing careers and degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. I went to Cal Poly SLO where the motto is "learn by doing." I try to implement as many fun and interactive lessons as I can daily with my students! Being gifted the Maker's Space set along with the read aloud books will really let my current 1st graders (and future 1st graders!) dive into problem solving skills and creative discussions with peers!
