The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how we teach and how kids learn. For more than a year students stared at a screen and attempted to learn. They lost the opportunity to interact and work together and the chance at hands-on learning. I’d like to extend the opportunity for the kids to get back to cooperative learning and “learning by doing” in order to improve the quality of their education.
Through the utilization of classroom lab activities and equipment I will be able to better model and exemplify the skills necessary for learning science in order to enrich the education of each student by using multiple modes of teaching. In addition, the kids will learn to cooperate and interact appropriately in a learning environment. Finally, I will be able to offer guided practice in real world activities that promotes a deeper understanding of the concepts and standards (MS-ESS1-1, MS-ESS1-3, MS-PS4-2).
Middle school science can be tough for many students, especially after more than a year of pandemic learning. This project will provide resources and incentives to make science fun, engaging, and minimize the anxiety of many students who have come back to in-person learning.
