In our inner city school, we take our students outdoors daily for exercise and development of gross motor skills. Unfortunately, we do not have a safe place to store the outdoor equipment from the elements of the weather. Many of our ride on toys become unusable and unsafe to use. The importance of developing gross motor skills is a high priority in preschool. The many benefits of outdoor play include developing competence and confidence in activities that require gross motor skills., learning how to take turns, and cooperatively playing with others.
