Through this training I will become better qualified to teach inclusive and trauma-informed yoga to students as well as other adults. My students will be able to practice mindfulness and listen to their own mind/body connection. Growing evidence shows that explicit instruction and practice in mindfulness and mind/body connection, such as doing yoga and meditation, has a positive impact on how the body responds to stress, illness and metal wellbeing. This practice will facilitate wellness and social-emotional learning practices, as well as physical confidence, competence and strength. Research shows that mindfulness and yoga practices for teachers leads to increased performance, self-compassion, and resilience, and reduced stress and burnout. Professionals receiving mindfulness interventions also experience less emotional exhaustion and increased job satisfaction. Studies similarly demonstrate the connection between teacher well-being and student learning. For example, decreases in teacher stress and burnout lead to increases in student social-emotional intelligence, academic learning, and empathy. Daily mindfulness practices have been tied to increased student attendance rates, decreased suspension rate, and reductions in stress and anxiety. Wellness practices have been shown to increase student confidence and performance, especially for those who have experienced trauma.
