My students are nearly all below grade level for reading and math. The math game and fluency workbook masters will be excellent practice for building skill and confidence in 2nd grade skills to meet our CC standards. The Scholastic News is a fantastic resource to increase exposure, build context and spark interest in world news and science, while practicing our reading and decoding skills to build that foundational knowledge. These resources will be used for in-class work whole group as well as small group, developing our skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. The book collections will be the foundation of our class library. I use The Daily 5 method to make independent reading at any level a core pillar of instruction daily, and with a broad and wide-ranging library my students would have more to choose from, 4 separate times per day, as well as new books for read alouds at story time.
