I strive to make my classroom as comfortable and relaxing as possible for my students. If they can let their guards down then they can lift their hearts up and be who they need to be to learn. I have found that most of my students like working on the floor and in a room that's dimmer because during the rest of the day they are sitting straight up in their chairs in harshly lit rooms. I have bean bags and some chairs that lean back and the kids love getting to relax and let go a little. However, they often have to write on books or their Chromebooks so I want to give them options for desks as well. I am also requesting some more lights since I use lamps instead of the harsh overhead lights because it sets a more relaxing mood in the classroom. As high schoolers, they are already stressed out enough as it is, so if I can reduce some of that stress simply by turning off the lights I want to be able to do that for them.
